Strong finish of Korevaar in Tour de Suisse

The fourth and final stage in the Tour de Suisse had some tough climbs. Valerie Demey went on adventure during this stage, while Jeanne Korevaar performed well on the final climb.

The peloton headed from Chur to Lantsch/Lenz over 98.5 km in the final stage. The first part of the stage was a gradually climb for 30 km to the Wolfgangpass. Then some undulating terrain followed, with a 7 km long final climb as desert. On the Wolfpangpass the peloton split into several pieces. After the summit Valerie Demey and three other riders escaped from the peloton. The escapees took 30 seconds on the peloton, but the gap went down and with 20 km to go Demey and her companions were reeled in.

In the descent to the final climb of the race two riders attacked. Jeanne Korevaar was in the chase group behind them. On the final ascent it was Lucinda Brand who took the stage and overall win. Korevaar managed to stay with the first group for a long time and crossed the line in 14th place, two minutes behind Brand. In the final overall classification Korevaar took a 13th place.

“Today I had a good day on the bike! On the first climb I was in the front of the peloton. In the descent to the final climb the race exploded. I was still in the front and gave it all on the final climb. I could follow the first group for a long time, but once I had to let go the suffering really started. Also the rain was pouring down, so the final kilometres were really hard. I am happy with the result and the way we races as team. We were with a small group, but showed ourselves multiple times. Now I am looking forward to the national championships”, Korevaar told after the race.
