A hard mid-week race finished in a sprint of a small peloton. Rachele Barbieri showed her fast legs again and finished inside the top-10.
Just after the start of Dwars door Vlaanderen a group with Katia Ragusa went up the road. For a moment it seemed the day`s breakaway was gone, however the peloton accelerated and reeled in the escapees. With all the hills and cobblestones it was an aggressive race, but none of the attempts could build up a significant lead. In the meanwhile the peloton was reduced to 30 riders, which had to sprint for the victory in Waregem. Rachele Barbieri was still in the first group and sprinted to a sixth place.
The Italian Liv Racing Xstra rider was satisfied after the race. “I`m happy with my race. I wanted to show myself, because I was a little disappointed after Gent-Wevelgem. Today I was feeling well and managed to get in the front in the finale. It was a close sprint. Of course you always want to finish higher, but we can be satisfied with this result. It is also good for the team spirit after all the unlucky moments we had in the past races.”
